The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the financial superpower in world cricket, as it makes up for almost 80% of the revenue of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

the ICC Chairman Jay Shah, was the former president of BCCI from 2019 to 2024, and was a major person in compiling the financial position of the board.

All the matches that involve Indian team are the ones which generate the highest revenue by broadcast, ticket sales, and sponsorship deals. These numbers go as much as up to millions, especially the India and Pakistan matches. The two countries have not taken part in bilateral cricket for more than a decade.

India and Bangladesh have not hesitated in engaging in bilateral matches. However, according to the ICC's Future Tours and Programs (FTP), that relation is also now barely clinging for its life following the terror attack in Pahalgam- where 26 people were killed by a group of terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. This terror attack happened in Baisaran valley in Pahalgam, which is a popular tourist spot.

All this had come after ALM Fazlur Rahman, a retired Bangladesh army officer (close to the interim government) gave rise to a controversy by stating that northeastern states should get take by them in case India attacks Pakistan.

'If India attacks Pakistan, Bangladesh should occupy the seven States of Northeastern India. I think it is necessary to start discussions with China on a joint military arrangement in this regard,' Major General (Retd.) ALM Fazlur Rahman wrote in Bengali in a Facebook post on Tuesday (April 29, 2025).

The Asia Cup, which will involve India, Pakistan and Bangladesh along with other teams is set to be held in India later this year, but is most probable to be postponed.

The Men in Blue were also going to travel to Bangladesh for a white-ball series of three T20i and as many ODI matches.

However, according to the current situation, the tour is going to be dismissed. The BCCI states that they will overcome this issue when the time comes. The main concern of BCCI for not going on the tour is the safety of the Indian cricket team in Bangladesh.

If India refuses to play against Pakistan and Bangladesh, it is going to affect the financial health of both countries' cricket boards. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) might lose around Rs. 220 crore, and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) might lose around Rs.

130 crore.
