As light drizzle intensified over the Wankhede Stadium during the second innings of the IPL 2025 clash between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, many fans began wondering: will the match be declared a draw if rain stops play?

The answer is no—because more than 5 overs have been bowled in Gujarat’s chase, a result can be declared using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.

At the end of 11 overs, Gujarat Titans were 76/1needing 80 more runs in 54 balls. According to DLS calculations, GT are currently ahead of the par scorewhich means if no further play is possible, Gujarat Titans will win the match.

What are the rules in case of rain in IPL 2025?

  • A minimum of 5 overs must be bowled in the second innings for a result to be determined.

  • If rain interrupts play after 5 overs and the match can’t resume, the DLS method will be used.

  • For a 7:30 PM start matchthere is a 60-minute buffer (till 12 AM) to try and complete the game.

  • If play resumes within that window, overs can be reduced to fit in a shortened game.

  • If the 5-over threshold isn’t met even with the buffer, the match will be declared as no resultand both teams will share 1 point each.

As of now, with 11 overs completed in GT’s chase, the match has reached the result zone. Unless Gujarat fall behind the DLS par or the match restarts and they collapse, GT will be declared the winner if rain continues and play cannot resume.
