Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may soon meet veteran batsman Virat Kohli so that he can be celebrated to withdraw the decision to retire from Test cricket. It is being told that a big and influential face of Indian cricket will talk to Kohli himself.
This meeting can be done before the selection of the Test team, the date of which is currently being considered on 23 May. However, where the selection meeting will be held, it is not known yet. Apart from this, BCCI is also planning a press conference to announce the name of the new Test captain. Also, India A team, which will go on England tour, can also be selected in the next few days.
BCCI has been successful in persuading many players before this. Like Rohit Sharma was persuaded to leave the Test captaincy. It is believed that even before Rohit’s retirement, this big person spoke to him.
Now it has to be seen whether Virat can be celebrated or not. But, the board hopes that the person who talks to them will definitely have an impact. At the same time, the board also wants to know from Kohli why he made up his mind to quit Test cricket.
Kohli’s average in the Test was above 50, but due to recent poor performance, it has come to around 46. Kohli is not far away from completing 10,000 runs in the Test. They need only 770 runs to reach this record.
The legendary batsmen have played 123 Tests so far and have also captained Team India in 68 matches. At first it seemed that he did not want to play just the England series. But, now there is news that he is thinking of completely removing Test cricket.
Kohli has always been a great supporter of Test cricket and he is also credited with keeping this format alive. If the next captain is a young player (such as Shubman Gill), then Kohli’s experience will be very important for the team.
However, his record in England has not been special. He has scored 1096 runs in 17 Tests there, including two centuries and five half -centuries. His average has been 33.21.
