Delhi: Indian cricket team veteran batsman Rohit Sharma has announced the retirement of red ball from cricket before the upcoming Test series of five matches against England. 38 -year -old Rohit made this announcement through social media, which regretted not getting a respectable farewell to many former players and fans on the field.

Sharing a picture of the Indian Test cap on his Instagram story, Rohit wrote, “Hello everyone, I want to share that I am retiring from Test cricket. It has been a great honor for me to play in white jersey from the country. Thank you for the love and support of all.”

However, former Indian batsman Manoj Tiwari reacted to this and said that Rohit should have been given a chance to play a final match on the field. Talking to Cricbuzz, he said, “If Rohit Sharma had retired by playing the last match on the field instead of social media, it would have been more respectable farewell. We all would have been better.”

Let us know that the year of 2024 was very challenging for Rohit Sharma. He scored only 619 runs in 14 Tests this year, that too at an average of only 24.76. The decline in his batting form was clearly visible, while his captaincy was also on the target of critics.

In November, India faced a clean sweep in the domestic Test series for the first time against New Zealand, which raised a big question on Rohit’s captaincy. Subsequently, his performance on Australia tour also faded. He lost two out of three Tests and did not land in the final Test.

Praising Rohit’s captaincy, Tiwari said, “He has been a popular captain among this team. Young players also preferred to play under his leadership. We often hear him in an interview. It was a very good experience to play under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy.”
