IPL 2025: Why Kolkata and Hyderabad Were Dropped?
Kolkata - Weather Woes Prompt Exclusion
Eden Gardens in Kolkata was initially expected to host a playoff game or even the final. However, persistent thunderstorms and heavy rain warnings led to multiple disruptions and weather concerns in the region across the last week of May.
Also, there is a possibility for the start of the Bengal Pro T20 League for the 2nd season. As the matches are scheduled to be played at the Eden Gardens, that may have culminated BCCI removing matches from the City of Joy.
Hyderabad - SRH Exit Ends Hosting Chances?
Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium was lined up to host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator. But with Sunrisers Hyderabad knocked out of the playoff race following a washed-out match. It is unknown why the matches are removed from Hyderabad.
