The Indian cricket team is set to embark on a new chapter, with the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee gearing up to select players for the England tour, without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Virat and Rohit’s exit from the longest format has been confirmed. The India A team will be finalized this week, with the senior squad for the upcoming tour expected to be announced soon.

As the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been shifted to June 3 from the original May 25, selectors are now dealing with a more complicated scenario. However, as reported by Cricbuzz, the aim is still to select players from teams whose IPL campaigns are likely to end during the league stage.

India A Squad Selection

Abhimanyu Easwaran will lead India A as captain. The BCCI is also monitoring Tanush Kotian, Baba Indrajith, Akash Deep, and Karun Nair, who are all being considered for the tour. Based on their performances, some may be promoted to the senior squad.

Dhruv Jurel and Nitish Reddy are expected to be included in the India A squad, with both having a potential chance of being elevated to the senior team in the future.

India Senior Squad

Shardul Thakur is poised to rejoin the national team for the Test series, after showcasing strong performances in the Ranji Trophy. His ability to adapt to seam-friendly conditions makes him a valuable addition.

With Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant confirmed as the two wicket-keepers for the Test series against England. Ishan Kishan, despite getting the BCCI’s central contract, will not be considered.

Shreyas Iyer is also drawing attention, especially with the retirement of Virat Kohli. This might force the selectors to reconsider Iyer, who was previously not in the mix.

Sai Sudharsan, a prominent name, is also being considered for a Test call-up. Many believe he is the most suitable player to replace Rohit Sharma.

Mukesh Kumar and Yash Dayal are likely to be selected, though Khaleel Ahmed might have to wait for his turn. There are still doubts surrounding Mohammed Shami’s position in the team.

Despite some exits, Sarfaraz Khan, having just returned from a long injury layoff, is not expected to make the cut for the England tour.
