Former India cricketer Yograj Singh is not happy with the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket, as he feels there is no one left who can guide the young players. He said great players should play till 50 years of age. Rohit and Virat bid adieu to the longest format, leaving the fans and cricket experts stunned.

India will take on England in an away five-Test match series starting from June 20, which will mark the beginning of the World Test Championship cycle 2025-27. Ahead of the series, Yograj opined on the retirements of the two greats of the game.

“Virat’s departure is a big loss. When the top stars were dropped after India’s win in the 2011 World Cup, the team never recovered. I feel a lot of cricket was left in Virat and Rohit,” Yograj told ANI.

He also warned the team of the consequences of taking the young side to England. He expressed concerns that no one will be there to motivate players in England.

“A team of young players will always fail. Maybe Virat achieved everything. If you form a team of inexperienced players, it will always fall apart. The greatest players should continue playing till 50 years of age. I am sad about their retirements as no one will be able to motivate the young players,” he added.

India will be led by a new Test captain, and there is a possibility of Shubman Gill getting the captain’s armband. He led the Men in Blue in the five T20IS against Zimbabwe last year. He has been leading the Gujarat Titans since the 17th season of the Indian Premier League. GT are currently no.1 in the standings with 8 wins from 11 matches in the 18th edition.
