Virat Kohli‘s outstanding Test career came to an end earlier this week when he retired from the longest cricket. He accumulated more than 9,000 runs and hit 30 centuries in 123 Tests. Earlier, Rohit Sharma also announced his departure from Test cricket. Although they have retired from red-ball cricket and T20Is, both will retain their A+ contract. They will now exclusively participate in one-day internationals.

Devajit Saikia, the BCCI secretary, confirmed on Wednesday that both players will not be downgraded in the contract system despite their retirement from two formats of the game.

“Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s grade A (+) contract will continue despite their retirement from the T20Is and Tests. They are part of the Indian cricket team, and will continue to receive all the benefits of Grade A+ category,” Saikia told ANI.

The BCCI issued the list of central contracts for the 2024-2025 cycle in April. Kohli, Rohit, Bumrah, and Jadeja are in the Grade A+ category. The 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle will start with India’s tour of England.
