Yashasvi Set To Create History; Will Overtake Dravid, Sehwag To Become Fastest Indian To Achieve Huge Feat

India will head into a new era in Test cricket when they take on England in a five-match series, starting June 20. This will be their first series since the retirements of R Ashwin, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Ashwin retired during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and returned home while Virat and Rohit recently quit red-ball cricket.Shubman Gill is the front-runner to be named the new captain. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman, Nitish Kumar Reddy and other youngsters will have the onus to do the job for Team India.Yashasvi, who made his Test debut ahgainst West Indies in 2023, has been enjoying a purple patch and he is set to create history in Test cricket. The left-handed batsman has scored 1798 runs in 19 Tests. He is just 202 runs away from completing 2000 runs in red-ball cricket.Yashasvi is close to creating history and he can break Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag's record to become the fastest Indian to score 2000 runs in Tests. Dravid and Sehwag took 40 innings each to achieve this feat.Dravid played Test cricket from 1996 to 2012 while Sehwag played red-ball cricket from 2001 to 2013. Yashasvi has played 36 innings and needs to score 202 runs in three innings to break the Indian legends' record.Yashasvi is set to have a new opening partner as Rohit has now retired from Test cricket. KL Rahul, who opened in Rohit's absence, is likely to reclaim the opening job on a full-time basis once again.The five-match Test series between India and England will be played from June 20 to August 4. Jasprit Bumrah, who once looked set to become the new Test captain, is unlikely to be part of the leadership group.Rishabh Pant is likely to become the new full-time vice-captain of the red-ball team. He has been a regular in the Test team since his debut in 2018.
