Delhi: After the retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, a big issue has arisen regarding leadership in the Indian Test team. In such a situation, Team India will have to take a big decision regarding the selection of their next captain.
According to reports, Shubman Gill can be made captain for the Test series of five matches against England next month. Last year, Gill was appointed as the vice-captain in the Test format, but he has not yet been able to confirm his place in the Test team. So far, his average in 32 Tests has been just 35.
The Indian team’s star all -rounder Ravichandran Ashwin has suggested appointing Ravindra Jadeja as captain.
Ashwin said on his YouTube channel, “Don’t forget that Jadeja is the most experienced player of the team. He should be included in this discussion. If you want to make a young player a captain by training them for two years, Jadeja can also captain it for two years. India can also make him a virtue. Perhaps it can be my wild card suggestion.”
Ashwin also advised Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill. He said that if Gill performs well in IPL 2025 and takes the team to the playoffs, then it can strengthen the perception of their leadership ability. However, Ashwin also warned that the Test captaincy cannot depend on just one good IPL season.
Former veteran off-spinner said, “I want the Gujarat Titans to reach the IPL playoffs. If Gill receives respect there, his captaincy can be easy. But, the captaincy in Test cricket is not a matter of a season. A leader should also know about the first-class cricket of the country.”
