The 2025 season of Indian Premier league (IPL) has come out to be challenging for both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and their skipper MS. The fact adds to the fact for CSK's troubles as they were the first ones to get knocked out of the tournament this year.
Apart from the concerns surrounding the performance of certain players, there have been increasing concerns about performances of certain players, especially MS Dhoni. These discussions gained further elaborations as the season progressed. However, nothing went for the CSK as they kept losing games.
Considering the popular speculations that suggest that this might be the last season for MS Dhoni with the franchise, former Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Tom Moody shared his views on the matter and shared some of his views in this discussion.
'Every team is a mirror of their leaders, and he is such a significant leader, and has been for so long. We all have a fire inside of us, and at times we need to recognize when that is starting to flicker, and if not, go out. I just don't know whether what I am seeing is correct, but certainly my observation is that the spark is not there that I have seen in previous years,' Tom Moody told ESPN Cricinfo.
After they secured a victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), MS Dhoni himself talked about his IPL retirement. The wicketkeeping legend stated that he is going to work hard for 6-8 months in order to see how his body reacts before he would make any big decision.
'A lot of them don't know when it is going to be my last time (smiles), so they want to come and see me play. There is no escaping the fact (that I am in the last phase of my career). After this IPL gets over, I have to work hard for another 6-8 months to see if my body can take this pressure. Nothing to decide now but the love and affection I have seen is excellent,' MS Dhoni had earlier said during the post-match presentation.
CSK have had a terrible campaign in IPL 2025. As they have played 12 matches, they have only managed to win three of their clashes. The team is currently at the bottom of the table, and will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) as their upcoming clash.
