Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declared the coaching staff of India A team for the tour of England. This time, former Indian cricketer Rishikesh Kanitkar has been appointed as the head coach. Along with him, Shubhdeep Ghosh of Assam has been made a fielding coach and Troy Kuli has been made a bowling coach.
VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, usually coaching India A. But, this time this responsibility has been given to Kaneitkar.
Who is Rishikesh Hemant Kanitkar?
Rishikesh has been a left -handed batsman and off break bowler. He has played some Tests and ODI matches for India. Till retiring in 2015, he scored more than 8,000 runs in the Ranji Trophy. He is the only captain who has won the title of both Elite and Plate League in the Ranji Trophy.
Rishikesh Kanitkar, who played two Tests and 34 ODIs for Team India, has scored 10,400 runs in 146 first -class matches at an average of 52.26. Earlier, this former Maharashtra player has given coaching to the first Indian women’s team (winning gold medal in the Asian Games in 2022), India A and India’s Under-19 team (winning Under-19 World Cup in 2022).
India A team will leave for England on 25 and 26 May. The first four -day match will be played in Canterbury from 30 May. The second match will be held in Northhampton from 6 June. After this, a practice match will be played between India A and Senior Team in Bikenham between 13 and 16 June. The match will be behind the closed doors (Inter-Squad).
At present, the senior team has not been announced. It may be delayed due to changes in the schedule of IPL.
