USA picked up a demolishing 169-run win over Canada in the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 2023-27. The stars for the win were the Indian duo of Smit Patel and Milind Kumar, who scored centuries to help the USA post a daunting total of 361-3. Smit Patel scored 152 in 137 balls, while Milind Kumar scored 115 in 67 balls.
The pair added 208 runs for the fourth wicket to bat Canada out of the game. They were bowled out for 192 and the USA picked up an emphatic win.
Who Is Smit Patel?
This is not the first time Smit Patel grabbed eyeballs. He was part of the India U-19 World Cup squad that won the World Cup in 2012 under the leadership of Unmukt Chand. In the final against Australia, India had slipped to 97-4 in a chase of 226, before Patel walked in and scored 62*, putting on 130 with skipper Unmukt Chand (111*) as well as hitting the winning runs. Before moving to the USA, Patel had played for Baroda, Goa, Gujarat, and Tripura in domestic cricket, scoring 3278 runs, including 11 centuries. He scored 236 for Goa against Mizoram in 2020. However, he couldn't break into the senior Indian team. He announced his retirement from all cricket under the remit of the BCCI in 2021, allowing him to play for USA. The USA team has many players who started their careers as Indian cricketers. Milind Kumar had also played domestic cricket for India before moving to the USA. Harmeet Singh and Saurabh Netravalkar played for Mumbai in Indian domestic cricket, while USA skipper Monank Patel played for Gujarat U19s.
