Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan completed the chase of 200 runs against Delhi Capitals without taking too many risks. With the 10-wicket win, Gujarat Titans have made it to the playoffs for the third time in four seasons. Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Punjab Kings also confirmed their places in the next round. Sai scored an unbeaten 108 runs off 61 balls, laced with 12 fours and 4 sixes.
On the other hand, Gill remained not out on 93 runs off 53 deliveries, including 7 sixes and 3 fours. Shubman has been a revelation as a captain in his second year. The 25-year-old captain has amassed 601 runs in 12 matches at an average of 60.10 and a strike rate of 155.69. Gill is called the Prince of Indian cricket, and this title is also written on his bat.
However, former India player and the current assistant coach of Gujarat, Parthiv Patel, is not in favour of calling the batter a Prince. He spoke to Anant Tyagi, Ajay Jadeja, and Mohammad Kaif after the match. Anant questioned him about Gill’s bat carrying the name of Prince.
“Let Shubman Gill remain Shubman Gill instead of calling him a prince. You gave him this name from the commentary box. He is leading from the front and makes his presence felt in the dressing room. He doesn’t talk much but his words carry a lot of weight,” Parthiv Patel said.
“He is working hard on his batting from behind the scenes. Gill takes his batting seriously, and we see how he prepares before a match. The results that we are seeing are because of his preparations. Our next aim is to finish among the top two teams and we can achieve our target if we win the next two matches,” he added.
