KKR Expresses Discontent Over BCCI’s Mid-Season Rule Change After Washed-Out Match Following the resumption of the IPL after suspension, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have voiced their dissatisfaction with the BCCI over a recent mid-season rule change. Watch a Video for details.
The franchise is unhappy with the implementation of a new regulation that allows for an additional one or two hours of reserve time in case a match is at risk of being disrupted. However, this rule was not applied during KKR’s crucial match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
On May 17, the KKR vs. RCB match was entirely washed out due to rain, and not even a 5-over contest could take place. In a letter addressed to the BCCI, KKR CEO Venky Mysore expressed frustration: “When the IPL restarted, it was clear that the match on May 17 between KKR and RCB was highly likely to be impacted by rain. This forecast was well-known. Not only was the match abandoned, but the newly introduced 120-minute reserve time rule- if applied, could have allowed at least a 5-over game to be played.”
As a result of the abandoned match, KKR were eliminated from playoff contention- a setback the team believes could have been avoided had the updated rule been enforced.
