Delhi: Mumbai Indians (Mi) star batsman Suryakumar Yadav played a brilliant innings of 73 runs in 43 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC) in a crucial match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, due to which he was chosen as ‘Player of the Match’. With this performance, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi by 59 runs at the Wankhede Stadium and entered the playoffs.
After the match, Suryakumar shared a emotional story reacting to winning the award. He told that even though he had won many personal awards during the season, the ‘Player of the Match’ Trophy was far away from him, and his wife had reminded him of this, just before the match.
He said, “There have been 13 matches so far and my wife said a lovely thing this morning. She said that I took all the awards, but did not get the ‘Player of the Match’. This trophy is special for me and I dedicate it to my wife. She eagerly wait for such moments and when I return home, we celebrate it together.”
His innings played under difficult circumstances was adorned with 7 fours and 6 sixes, which brought the team to a strong score by recovering from the initial tremors. Suryakumar made two important partnerships of 57 runs in just 21 balls with 55 with Tilak Verma and Naman Dhee, which strengthened the team.
Speaking on the strategy of the match, Suryakumar said, “In such a situation, it was necessary for one of the batsmen to stay.
While this victory of Mumbai gave him a playoff ticket, the path of the tournament for Delhi team ended here. Mumbai Indians put 48 runs in the last two overs and set a challenging target in front of Delhi and then gave them to 121 runs in 18.2 overs.
