The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) suffered a 42-run defeat in the IPL 2025 game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 23 at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
Their batting collapse in the middle overs has cost them a massive defeat in Friday’s clash. RCB has one game left in the league stages and will be aiming for a win in their upcoming clash against Lucknow Super Giants to secure a top spot in the IPL 2025 points table.
Batting first, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head opened the innings while Yash Dayal opened the bowling attack.
Going on a rampage mode, Abhishek Sharma went on to score 34 runs off 17 deliveries, which included 3 fours and 3 sixes. Meanwhile, Travis Head went on to score 17 off 10 deliveries, which included 3 fours.
After a solid start of 54 for the first wicket, they went on to lose two quick wickets of the openers in the powerplay.
With Lungi Ngidi picking the wicket of Abhishek in the fourth over, Bhuvneshwar bagged the wicket of Travis Head in the fifth over.
With Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen at crease, Sunrisers Hyderabad went on to score 71 runs in the powerplay.
After Klaasen lost his wicket for 24 runs to Suyash Sharma, Krunal Pandya ended Aniket Verma’s cameo (26 off 9 deliveries) in the 12th over. Meanwhile Kishan went on to slam his fifty and marched forward taking the side towards a mammoth run at scoreboard.
With the dismissal of Nitish Reddy for four runs, SRH lost five wickets for 165 runs. With Romario Shepherd dismissed Abhinave Manohar for 12 runs, Pat Cummins remained unbeaten with 13 runs on the 20 over innings.
In the pursuit of chasing 232 runs, Virat Kohli and Phil Salt opened the innings while Pat Cummins opened the bowling attack.
Both opener made a solid start, with scoring 72 runs in the powerplay for no loss. However, Virat Kohli lost his wicket to Harsh Dubey for 43 runs, while, Nitish Reddy bagged the wicket of Mayank Agarwal for 11 runs.
Meanwhile Salt went on to slam his fifty and scored 62 runs off 32 deliveries before being dismissed by Cummins.
With the dismissal of Rajat Patidar for 18 runs, RCB went on a batting collaspe, with losing 6 wickets for 16 runs.
In the final over, RCB lost all their wickets to score 189 runs where Pat Cummins bagged three wickets while, Eshan Maling bagged 2 wickets.
Meanwhile, Jaydev Unadkat, Harshal Patel, Harsh Dubey and Nitish Reddy went on bag a wicket each powering a 42-run victory.
