Shreyas Iyer explains secret to Punjab’s success, reveals Ricky Ponting camaraderie

Shreyas Iyer revealed the secret to Punjab Kings' success this season as they secured a top-two finish in the IPL 2025. as Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis starred on the night in Japiur.

This was the first time in 11 years that Punjab has finished in the top two.

A lot of the success has been down to different players stepping up for the side during the season, which Shreyas pointed out to in the post-match presentation. The PBKS skipper said that the team's mantra has been to look for the win no matter what the situation. Shreyas doffed his hat to coach Ricky Ponting and the team management for their work with the team.

Shreyas said that for him, it was important to gain the trust of the team, and he wants to maintain that relationship throughout the rest of the tournament.

"I personally feel everyone stepped up at the right time. We have been in that mindset that we have to win no matter what situation. Kudos to everyone and the management. Ricky has been fantastic, and for me it was about gaining the trust of every individual. And that happened by winning matches, and I personally feel we need to maintain that relationship throughout.

When you are down in the dumps, it is easy to backstab each other," said Shreyas.

'Ponting lets me be decisive on the field'

Ponting and Shreyas has shared a bond from their time in DC and the former Aussie captain has been the biggest fan of the Indian batter for quite sometime. Shreyas said that Ponting lets him be decisive on the field at all times and things have culminated in a great way.

The PBKS skipper said that he is ecstatic that everything is working for them at the moment.

"We have a camaraderie from the last few years, he (Ponting) lets me be decisive on the field, all these things have culminated in a great way.

PBKS will now face either RCB or GT in Qualifier 1.
