The England bowler Gus Atkinson has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, which is set to commence from May 29.

England will not announce a replacement for him for the series. Atkinson picked up a hamstring injury during the one-off test against Zimbabwe in Nottingham last week.

He bowled over 19.2 overs in the game and picked up three wickets in the game. Atkinson’s injury has put England at a setback as Jofra Archer has also been ruled out of the series.

However, it is anticipated that Gus Atkinson will recover before the five-match test series against Indian on June 20.

Atkinson who made his debut last July, has picked 55 wickets at 22.30 in his first 12 games. He would be a significant loss ahead of the five match series against India, but England have insisted that he will be available for the first test at Headingley on June 20.

England’s fast bowling resources were depleted against Zimbabwe, but Brydon Carse and Chris Woakes have returned from Injuries in the County Championship this month and Jofra Archer is targeting a test comeback at some stages in the India series.

Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the ODI series against West Indies this week, with Luke Wood replacing him in England’s squad.

Woakes will step up his return this week by playing for England Lions against India A at Canterbury. Sonny Baker and Josh Hull who both have England developments contracts, are other fast bowling options in the Lions squad, along with Hampshire’s Eddie Jack who is yet to make his first class Debut and Glouscestershire’s Ajeet Singh Dale.
