Delhi: In the first match of the three -match ODI series played in Birmingham, England defeated West Indies by 238 runs. Batting first, England scored a huge score of 400 runs losing 8 wickets in 50 overs, in response to which the West Indies team looked helpless in front of the England bowlers and had to face defeat by a big margin. The visiting team was reduced to just 162 runs.

England’s batting scored four half -centuries. Ben Docket (60), Joe Root (57), Harry Brook (58) and Jacob Bethel (82) contributed significantly.

Docket shared 64 runs with opener Jamie Smith and then 73 runs with Root. After this, Root and Brook together added 51 runs. After Brook was dismissed on the score of 221/4, Jacob Bethel carried forward the innings in an aggressive manner.

Bethel scored 82 runs off 53 balls, including 8 fours and 3 sixes. He shared 66 runs with Jos Buttler and 98 runs with Will Jax. He was out in the last over of the innings, but by then England’s score had reached 400.

Ben Docket hit the 7th half -century of his ODI career. He scored 60 runs in 48 balls. This was his second half -century against the West Indies.

Joe Root also batted brilliantly and completed the 42nd ODI half -century of his career. His name has 17 centuries and now 553 fours. Root has scored 6,916 runs in 178 matches so far. His average against the West Indies is 66.23, including 4 centuries and 4 half -centuries.

The England bowlers also performed brilliantly and defeated the West Indies by a big margin to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

For the first time in ODI history, 400 runs without a century

The beginning of Harry Brook becoming captain was fantastic.

England batting aggressively scored 400 runs losing 8 wickets in the first ODI. The score of 400 runs in ODI cricket is not new, but this match was special because for the first time in ODI history (4880 matches) it happened that a team scored 400 runs, but no batsman could score a century.
