Delhi: Former Indian cricket team veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan has warmly welcomed the hand hand over of the Test team to young opener Shubman Gill. Dhawan called Gill a ‘great option’ as India’s Test captain.
Significantly, 25 -year -old Shubman Gill, who has started the innings with Shikhar Dhawan in ODI cricket, is now going to be the 37th Test captain of India, replacing Rohit Sharma. He will field for the first time in the upcoming series of five Test matches against England.
Dhawan praised Gill saying, “I think this is a great decision. Shubman has recently performed brilliantly in the IPL. He is a talented player who has shown a lot of maturity in the last few years.”
The former left -handed opener further said, “I think he is perfectly suitable for Test captaincy. He will lead the team well and keep it united. It’s a new generation time – generation Z – and I am confident that Shubman will play this role brilliantly.
