Yashasvi Jaiswal rediscovered his form just before for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, hitting a match-winning century for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians on Monday, April 22nd. After struggling in the first seven matches in IPL 2024, Jaiswal paced his innings perfectly, slamming an unbeaten 104 to lead RR to a nine-wicket win while chasing 180 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
After the match, India captain Rohit Sharma embraced Yashasvi Jaiswal, praising the young player for his performance. Jaiswal had struggled in the first 7 matches of the 17th season, jeopardizing his chances of opening for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, he batted patiently, constructing a composed 60-ball knock against Mumbai Indians.
The promising southpaw would hope that the selectors recognize his talent and give him a chance in the upcoming ICC tournament after his impressive run. He scored more than 600 runs in the last IPL season.
Jaiswal has excelled for the national team, especially in Test matches. He was the leading run-scorer in India’s recent Test series victory over England, but struggled to carry that form in the 17th season before home fixture against the Hardik Pandya-led team.
Brian Lara praised Jaiswal, saying that it was the young player’s best innings.
“Yes, he played a beautiful innings. Despite being told to be less aggressive, he still maintained a high strike rate. However, he took his time, watched the ball closely and executed proper cricket shots,” said Lara.
The RR batter is hoping that his poor form is behind him and this century leads to better performances in the rest of the season. Currently, the Rajasthan Royals lead the IPL points table with 7 wins and just 1 loss in their 8 games. They are followed by KKR, SRH, and CSK in the standings.
