Punjab Kings, who lost the qualifier 01 of the IPL 2025 season, have secured a comfortable 5-wicket victory against Mumbai Indians in qualifier 2 and secured the second spot in the IPL 2025 finals.
Punjab Kings have reached the IPL finals for the first time in 11 Years. If they manage to win the finals, they will become the second team in IPL history to win the title after losing Qualifier 01.
Only the Mumbai Indians have achieved the feat and done it twice in 2013 and 2017. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a title after finishing third in the points table. However, it is yet to remain whether PBKS will be added in the list as they lost the qualifier 01 and advanced to the finals after a win in the eliminators.
In 2013 season, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians finished in the top two by the end of the league stage games. Playing in the Qualifier 01, Mumbai Indians lost the game by 48 runs.
They went on to meet Rajasthan Royals who won the eliminators after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 wickets. Mumbai Indians secured a solid 4 wicket win in the Qualifier 2 to secure the spot in the finals.
Eventually, they secured a 23-run victory in the nail biting thriller against Chennai Super Kings to clinch their maiden Indian Premier League title.
In 2016 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad finished third in the points table by the end of group stages and won the eliminators game against Gujarat Lions by four wickets.
They went on to advance to finals to meet against Royal Challengers Bengaluru where Sunrisers Hyderabad secured a 8 run victory to claim their maiden IPL title.
In 2017 season, Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants finished in the top two position after group stages. Mumbai Indians suffered a 20 run defeat against Supergiants and played against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Qualifier 2 to secure a 6 wicket win.
They went on to clash with Rising Pune Supergiants where they secured a stunning 1 run win in the finals to claim their third title.
Apart from the teams who won the title despite losing the qualifier 01, Sunrisers Hyderabad is the only team to claim a title in the 2016 season.
