Royal Challengers Bengaluru has been impressive in the ongoing IPL 2025 season, as they advanced to the finals after a dominating 8-wicket victory over Punjab Kings in the Qualifier 1 at Mullanpur.

With the win, RCB has advanced to their fourth IPL finals after previous runner-up finishes in the 2009, 2011, and 2016 seasons.

The current IPL format was introduced in the 2011 season, with the teams finishing in the top two positions getting a chance to reach a final. The trend has been favouring the winners of the qualifier 1 to win 11 out of 14 titles since 2011, who has been advanced directly tothe finals.

Considering this conditions, RCB has the edge over Punjab Kings as they are fully rested and prepared for the summit clash.

Meanwhile, Under Rajat Patidar’s captaincy, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has carried momentum with a well defined batting and bowling line up.

IPL 2011 Winners – Chennai Super Kings

In 2011 season, Chennai Super Kings finished in the top two position of the points table along with Royal Challenges Bengaluru. They eventually secured a 6-wicket victory against Bengaluru franchise and advanced to the finals.

Meanwhile Mumbai Indians secured win against RCB in the Qualifier 2 to meet CSK in the finals where Yellow team claimed their first IPL title.

IPL 2012 Winners – Kolkata Knight Riders

In the 2012 season, Kolkata knight Riders completed the group stages in top two of the points table. They went on to face Qualifier 2 winners Chennai Super Kings and secured a stunning 5 wicket victory to claim their maiden IPL title.

IPL 2014 Winners – Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders finished in the top two of the points table after the group stages with secured a 28 run against table toppers Punjab Kings.

They qualified to finals where they met Punjab kings and secured a 3 wicket win to claim their second title.

IPL 2015 winners- Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings were the top two finishes in the points table after the group stages. Mumbai Indians secured a 25 run victory and advanced to the finals.

They went on to meet Chennai Super Kings in the finals where the Mumbai Indians secure their third IPL title.

IPL 2018 Winners – Chennai Super Kings

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings are the top finishers in the points table and Chennai Secured a 2 wicket win in the Qualifier 01 advancing to the finals.

Chennai Super Kings met Hyderabad in the finals where they secured a dominating 8 wicket win to claim their third IPL title.

IPL 2019 Winners – Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have been the top two finishers in the points table where Mumbai secured a 6 wicket victory to advance to finals.

Both sides went on to meet once again in the finals after Chennai secured a 6 wicket victory in the qualifier 2 against Delhi Capitals. However, Mumbai Indians secured a 1 run victory in the finals.

IPL 2020 Winners – Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians were one of the two who topped the 2020 season’s points table. After securing a 57 run victory against Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians advanced to the finals wheret they meet Delhi Capitals to secure a five wicket victory to claim their fifth IPL title.

IPL 2021 Winners – Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Captials are the top two finishers in the points table of the season. CSK secured a 4 wicket victory against Delhi Capitals advancing to finals.

Chennai met Kolkata in the finals and secured a 27 run victory to claim their fourth IPL title.

IPL 2022 Winners – Gujarat Titans

Gujarat Titans has been impressive claiming their first win on their inception in the IPL. They are one of the top two finishers in the point table and secured a win against Rajasthan Royals in the qualifier 01.

They advanced to the finals and met Rajasthan in the finals securing a 7 wicket win to claim maiden IPL title.

IPL 2024 Winners – Kolkata Knight Riders

Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad are the table toppers in the points table where KKR secured 8 wicket victory advancing to finals.

They went on to met Sunrisers Hyderabad in the finals where Kolkata secured a 8 wicket victory to claim their third IPL title.
