He hugged them and hailed the two for their contributions in the past. Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Punjab Kings by 6 runs in the final of the 18th season to lift the trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Kohli started crying in the last over of the match and was hugged by his wife, Anushka Sharma, after she came down to the ground from the stands.
“This win is special with these two (Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers). We were so close on a couple of occasions but couldn’t cross the line. We gave our prime, We were hurt. You see how people love them in Bengaluru. Our IPL trophy is equally theirs,” Virat Kohli said.
“What AB de Villiers did for the franchise was tremendous. He has won the most Player of the Match awards and it has been four years, he retired from the Indian Premier League. I told him that this trophy is also his,” he added.
