A celebratory evening turned into a nightmare as a stampede-like situation broke out at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations on June 4. As per latest ground reports, at least seven people are feared dead and over 25 have been injured in the chaos that erupted outside the stadium and Vidhana Soudha.
The large crowd had gathered to celebrate RCB’s maiden IPL title after their six-run win over Punjab Kings in the 2025 final.
Fans, waving flags and chanting slogans, had been lining up near the venue since afternoon despite advisories urging the public to use public transport and avoid the area. While authorities had earlier cancelled the open bus parade due to heavy traffic congestion, a felicitation ceremony for the RCB team was held at the stadium from 5 PM. However, inadequate crowd management and an overwhelming turnout led to panic and pushing near the gates, triggering the stampede.
Initial reports suggest that multiple people were trampled in the rush, and several children were among the injured. Emergency teams were seen rushing the injured to nearby hospitals.
Officials are yet to confirm the exact toll, but eyewitnesses and media reports indicate that the number of casualties could rise. An investigation is likely to be launched into the security arrangements and crowd control failure.
This tragic incident has cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a historic and joyous celebration for Bengaluru’s long-waiting RCB fanbase.
