According to reports, the former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan is likely to part ways with Lucknow Super Giants after an unimpressive IPL 2025 season.
It is said that Lucknow Super Giants are set to part ways with mentor Zaheer Khan, whose contract is up for renewal.
Under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, LSG finished in the seventh position of the IPL 2025 points table with six wins out of 14 games.
On this occasion, Questions are being raised about the future of certain key members of the Lucknow Super Giants’ coaching staff, currently operating under the mentorship of Zaheer Khan.
Zaheer Khan was roped in as a mentor before the start of last year’s auction, he was on boarded with only a one-year contract .
He was brought in to work alongside head coach Justin Langer, whose contract is also up for a renewal.
It is learnt that Zaheer Khan is facing the heat of franchise performance as the franchise is set to make a number of changes to the backroom staff and Zaheer Khan’s role is under the scanner.
Rishabh Pant has struggled with bat throughtout the season and failed to lead the side from the front. In 14 games, the southpaw scored 269 runs including a century and fifty.
Zaheer Khan working relationship with Rishabh Pant, the captain of LSG. Zaheer also played for MI, RCB, and DC during his IPL career and is also a former captain of Delhi Capitals.
While Zaheer Khan should not be blamed for Pant’s underwhelming show, he is partially to encourage fearless cricket.
LSG has spent INR 27 crore in last year’s auction, but Pant didn’t do well as a captain also a batter in 2025, with just one century and one fifty and the team failed to qualify for the playoffs on the second consecutive occasions.
LSG had a weak bowling attack throughout the season due to injury concerns. Despite the rise of players like Digvesh Rathi, Ravi Bishnoi, they leaked too many runs.
Mayank Yadav played only two games while Akash Deep who returned after injury picking only three wickets in six games.
Prince Yadav and Akash Singh shined only on few occasions. Shardul Thakur and Avesh Khan went on to bag 13 wickets each but were too expensive.
