Former cricketer Yograj Singh has lashed out at the Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer for his lousy shot during the finals of the IPL 2025 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Shreyas Iyer got dismissed for 1 in the summit clash as he edged Romario Shepherd behind the stumps to wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma.

Iyer’s dismissal was at his crucial stage where Punjab Kings lost momentum. Yograj Singh was particularly disappointed at Iyer as he called his shot a criminal offence and said there shouldn’t be any apology in this regard.

“The shot which Shreyas Iyer played in the final was a criminal offence, according to me. Ashok Mankad told me about this criminal offence, which comes under Section 302. He also told me that the repercussions of this are that you will be banned for two matches. What Shreyas did yesterday is not acceptable. There is no apology for that,” said Yograj.

Shreyas Iyer was the leading run scorer for the side and made a match winning 87* off 41 deliveries in the qualifier 02 against Mumbai Indians at the same venue.

His wicket was extremely crucial to Punjab’s chances for winnin the match. Following his dismissal, Shashank Singh made a 61 off 30 deliveries in a losing cause.

They fell short seven runs of their target. Krunal Pandya and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were instrumental in RCB’s comeback. Earlier, batting first, RCB posted a good score of 190/9 runs with Virat Kohli 43 runs off 35 deliveries being the top scorer. Jitesh Sharma played cameo scored 24 (10). Arshdeep Singh and Kyle Jamieson picked three wickets each for Punjab.

Speaking at the post match conference, Shreyas Iyer said, “The job is still half done, we have to be here and win the trophy next year,”.

“Positives, definitely the way we turned up and every individual stepping up and saying that he can win the match, there are so many youngsters in the team, I’m sure they’ve gained a lot of experience from these matches, and when they come next year, they will carry immense experience with them. We can build some tactics and strategies around that so that we can play some decent cricket,” he added.
