The discussion on the Indian team’s possible playing XI has intensified regarding the first match of the Test series starting against England from June 20. Meanwhile, former Australian captain and current coach of Punjab Kings Ricky Ponting has given a big opinion about fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.
Ponting believes that Arshdeep Singh should be included in India’s Test team from the initial match, as he understands England’s circumstances and Dux ball behavior better.
Ponting said, “I would like to see him in the Test team at the beginning of the England series. He is a very skillful bowler, has played county cricket and is aware of the circumstances there. Dux ball will help him in England.”
He further said, “India already has a strong pace attack, but a left arm bowler varies the team. The ball in England swings even after 30-50 overs, so the swinging left armor can create a separate angle and challenge for the team. If India does not feed it, it will be a little shocking.”
Arshdeep Singh, who made T20 International debut in 2022, has so far played 63 T20 matches for India, in which he has taken 99 wickets and has joined the list of India’s highest wicket bowlers in this format. Although he has not yet found a place in the Test team, he has proved his ability in first class cricket too.
He has taken 39 wickets in 12 first class matches played for Punjab, that too at an average of just 12. After taking 17 wickets in the IPL in 2023, he played 5 first class matches for the English County Club Kent, in which he took 13 wickets. Although the average was 41.76, he got a direct experience of pitch and bowling situations there.
Last year, Arshdeep Singh took 20 wickets for Punjab in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. According to his coach, Arshdeep regularly practices with both Dux and Kukabura balls to bowl in any condition.
