Bharat Arun, India’s former bowling coach, has shown his full support for wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. He believes that he has the potential to replicate Shane Warne’s magic during India’s upcoming tour of England. The five-match series, which will start on June 20, will also kick off the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle.
Arun highlighted Kuldeep’s abilities, stating that he could perform in England. He spoke about Warne’s remarkable success in England and suggested that Kuldeep might be able to achieve similar results.
“Wrist spinners have always proven to be effective, particularly in England. Even early on, when there’s a bit of moisture in the pitch, wrist spinners can get some assistance. The rough areas created by fast bowlers also play a role. However, making use of the rough is an art in itself. It’s not just about bowling. When we think of such bowlers, Shane Warne immediately comes to mind. Kuldeep possesses the skills required to succeed in England. Although the current Indian bowling attack is inexperienced, it has immense potential,” Arun told Revsportz.
Kuldeep’s only previous Test match in England was in 2018, where he went wicketless after bowling nine overs. The 30-year-old has not been a first-choice option for India in overseas conditions, having only played two Tests in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia).
With Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement, it is uncertain if Kuldeep will be included in the starting XI. However, he could play a significant role at Lord’s and the Oval. Kuldeep will compete with Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja for a spot in the starting XI.
The upcoming tour of England will also signal the start of a fresh chapter for the Indian team, with Shubman Gill stepping into the role of captain after Rohit Sharma’s retirement.
