MS Dhoni, the legendary cricketer, has been inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. This announcement was made by the International Cricket Council on June 9, with Dhoni being one of seven recipients of this esteemed recognition. He is the 11th Indian cricketer to be honoured with this esteemed accolade, reflecting his valuable impact on the game.
Dhoni shared his deep sense of pride and appreciation, emphasising how truly special it was to be included among the sport’s greatest players.
Dhoni expressed, “Being included in the ICC Hall of Fame is truly an honour, as it acknowledges the contributions of cricketers from all generations and corners of the world. To have my name placed among such legendary figures is an incredible feeling. It’s something I will hold dear for the rest of my life.”
His journey began on December 23, when he made his ODI debut against Bangladesh. Although his first appearance ended in a run-out on the first ball, he quickly redeemed himself by smashing 148 runs in his fifth match, against Pakistan in Visakhapatnam.
Dhoni’s career trajectory was marked by consistent brilliance, which secured his position in the Indian team. Not only was he an exceptional player, but his leadership skills were also quickly recognised, and he became the captain. His leadership led to India’s first-ever ICC T20 World Cup victory in 2007, followed by a historic ODI World Cup win in 2011, where his match-winning 91* in the final against Sri Lanka ended a 28-year drought. In 2013, under his captaincy, India won the ICC Champions Trophy, making him the first and only captain to secure all three major ICC titles.
Beyond his leadership accomplishments, Dhoni remains one of the most accomplished wicketkeepers in the game, with 829 dismissals to his name across 608 innings, including 634 catches and 195 stumpings.
