Delhi: During the celebration of the victory of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Bengaluru, the impact of the death of 11 people in a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium will be felt in cricket for years. The process of suspending the officials, arrest and political allegations is to go on, it will also affect cricket.

Guideline on celebrations

It is reported that the BCCI is creating a guideline on such a celebration, but this accident has raised a bigger question on the future of M Chinnaswamy Stadium. That is why when Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah said that to avoid such incidents, it can not be surprised.

‘Heart of the Town’

Those who know the geography of the city of Bengaluru will know that the current M Chinnaswamy Stadium is built in ‘Heart of the Town’ and the nearby MG Road is not only living here, even in the list of every tourist, the number 1 ‘spot’. Therefore, there is bound to be a crowd.

This stadium was built in 70 years

When this stadium was built in the last 70 years of the last century, the population of Bangalore city was about 16 lakhs. At that time, getting land for the stadium in such part of the city was a big decision, but then no one knew that after the IT Boom, the population of this city would cross 1.5 crore and IPL will also come in cricket.

Decrease in seat

A warning of seats’ capacity in the stadium and shortage of land was found only because of the National Cricket Academy built in the stadium complex. Then removed this academy from there, but the craze for cricket, which was made from the fan base of crores of RCB, did not find any solution.

IPL final played in Ahmedabad

Right now the IPL final was played in Ahmedabad, if it had been incidentally in this stadium in Bengaluru, what would have happened in and around it? As the infrastructure of Bangalore city was not taken care of with increasing population, the Karnataka State Cricket Association did not pay any attention to its problems of this stadium. The arrangements kept increasing but did not find any way to withstand the crowd.

Big cricket match in Bangalore city

Now it is certain that Maj Chinnaswamy will withdraw a big cricket match in Bangalore city. Even though it will take time for all this, M Chinnaswamy Stadium will be a part of history. The State Cricket Association will have to arrange new and big stadiums. This discussion has been going on since 2016, but the association did not pay any attention to this need.

Cricket Stadium in Mysore, 100 km away

When the government gave 20.8 acres of land to build a cricket stadium in Mysore, about 100 km from Bengaluru, in 2023, on this occasion, BCCI Chief Roger Binny said that IPL matches will also play in small cities around Bangalore.

In the project of this new stadium, the association has claimed to make it better than Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, but now we cannot transfer all the cricket of Bengaluru so far. It will take many years to find the right land and build a new stadium on it where a new academy is built near the airport.

Tumkuru as an alternative

In such a situation, the name of Tumkuru is coming out as a new option. The new International Cricket Stadium has started here in December 2024. Tumkuru is about 70 km from Bangalore. The cricket stadium being built on 50 acres of land was counting in the need for the economic development of the state government, Tumkuru, but now it has become a big need.

At this time, the question of the future of cricket is the biggest in Bengaluru. When the stadium was built, only then did the name of Karnataka cricket gain a boom. Now the State Cricket Association has to decide that only these distant stadiums will be counted as the stadium of Bengaluru or will build a new stadium? By the way, most of the new stadiums being built are being built outside the original city and Mohali, Pune and Gwalior are very good examples.
