In the second T20I against West Indies, Adil Rashid was taken apart in the 19th over of the first innings, which turned out to be one of the most expensive overs by an English bowler in T20 history. Rashid, bowling his final over, was smashed for 31 runs—thanks to brutal hitting from Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd.

The onslaught began on the very first ball, as Holder clubbed it over deep square leg for a six. The second delivery was launched over long-on for another maximum. On the third ball, although Holder didn’t connect perfectly with his heave, the ball still sailed over Tom Banton at long-on for a third consecutive six.

At that point, many began to wonder if it would be a six-sixes over. But Rashid was spared on the fourth delivery, which fetched only a single for Holder. However, Shepherd continued the destruction. He smashed the fifth ball straight down the ground for a towering six and then finished the over by hitting another six off the final ball.

West Indies scored 196/6 in 20 overs

Rashid’s over ended up costing 31 runs, making it the second most expensive over by any England bowler in T20s, after Stuart Broad’s infamous 36-run over to Yuvraj Singh during the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Earlier in the match, England had won the toss and opted to bowl first. Evin Lewis fell early, but Shai Hope and Johnson Charles steadied the innings with a 90-run stand. Charles scored 47, while Hope fell just short of a half-century with 49. Rovman Powell and Jason Holder chipped in with quick cameos to take West Indies to a competitive total of 196/6 in their 20 overs.

For England, Luke Wood was the standout bowler, returning impressive figures of 2/25 in his four overs.
