As India gears up for the five-match Test series against England, the team is currently playing an intra-squad warm-up game between India and India A.

This practice match is a crucial part of preparations, especially in English conditions.

While captain Shubman Gill and KL Rahul impressed with half-centuries on Day 1, Sarfaraz Khan stole the show on Day 2 with a brilliant century. However, Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling performance has raised some concerns within the team camp.

Bumrah Struggles on Day 2

On the second day, Bumrah appeared off-color, failing to take a single wicket.

He bowled 7 overs, conceded 36 runs, and lacked the usual sharpness expected of him. With the high-stakes IND vs ENG Test series just days away, Team India will be hoping he finds his rhythm soon, as his performance could be vital to India’s success.

In contrast, Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bowled effectively. Siraj took 2 wickets for 86 runs, while Prasidh Krishna managed 2 wickets for 41 runs. Arshdeep Singh also went wicketless, conceding 52 runs in 12 overs. Part-time bowler Nitish Reddy picked up a wicket as well.

India A ended Day 2 with 299 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Sarfaraz Khan led the charge with a quickfire 101 off 76 balls. Ishan Kishan added 45 runs, Abhimanyu Easwaran contributed 39, and Sai Sudharsan chipped in with 38.

The first Test between India and England is scheduled to begin on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. With key players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli having retired from the format, the focus will now be on the new generation—and Bumrah’s form remains one of the biggest talking points.

To prevent Jasprit Bumrah’s injury from aggravating, the BCCI’s medical team—working closely with the selectors and team management—has opted for a cautious approach. As a result, Bumrah will not feature in all five Test matches during the ongoing England tour.

His workload will be carefully monitored to ensure he remains fit for the long season ahead.
