Delhi: Former Australian team fast bowler Mitchell Johnson has severely criticized the team after a defeat to South Africa in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC). He said that Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon’s ‘Big Four’ bowling unit should now change for the future. Johnson believes that selectors need to seriously consider new options.
He especially targeted Josh Hazlewood, who was able to take only two wickets in this match. Johnson accused him of keeping the IPL above the preparation of the national team. Actually, Josh played an important role in winning his first IPL trophy to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
He said, “Our successful ‘Big Four’ bowling unit – Stark, Hazelwood, Cummins and Lyon – can no longer be considered fixed for the future,” Johnson wrote in The West Australian, “There have been concerns about Hazlewood’s fitness in the last few years, and prioritizing the return to IPL was shocking for many people. Lyon was also not seen in the third day.”
He further said, “If the senior players are just staying for a farewell in the Ashes, then it needs to think whether this is the right mindset. We have to adopt the future and show confidence in the selection of new Test players. Players playing on limited occasions like Sam Constas, Josh English and 36 -year -old Scott Bolland seems to be a different enthusiasm. They want to prove themselves on every occasion.”
Apart from this, he also raised questions about the batting order. According to Johnson, neither Cameron Green nor Marnas Labushen can be considered a long -term option as an opening. The former pacer insisted, “We need to find a trusted batsman for number 3.”
