The ongoing first Test between India and England has seen the dominance of the batters, with both teams crossing the 400-run mark in their first innings. After three days of action, the visitors have a lead of 96 runs with 8 wickets in hand in their second essay. For India, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant scored a hundred, while Ollie Pope reached the three-figure mark for the hosts. Harry Brook could have become the second Englishman to complete a ton, but the 26-year-old was dismissed for 99 runs.
The right-hander batter batted aggressively but was dropped twice by the Indian fielders. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed him in the last over of Day 2, but the bowler overstepped, giving a lifeline to the player.
Despite being lucky throughout his knock, Brook received special praise from Cheteshwar Pujara, who compared him with India’s wicket-keeper Pant.
“He is like Rishabh Pant. They both put pressure on the bowlers. The guys can take the game away quickly,” he said.
Sunil Gavaskar made a bold prediction about Brook. “Although Brook missed out on a hundred, he will score plenty of centuries for England before he finishes his career. He has all the shots,” he said.
