Michael Vaughan seems to be disappointed with Rishabh Pant for not doing the Somersault celebration after his century in the second innings of the first test in India’s tour of England 2025.

After reaching the milestone, Pant took off his gloves, and it seemed that Pant might break into it, but then he did not. He reckoned that he would have tried to improve on his first somersault.

Vaughan said this during an interaction with former India opener Sunil Gavaskar.

Can you explain what that celebration is? Do you know what that is? I was waiting for that flip as well. I was rather disappointed on commentary when he didn’t produce a double flip.”

“Knowing Rishabh, he’s always going to try to improve his celebrations, but I guess your celebration is probably taking this bit,” Michael Vaughan asked Gavaskar.

Gavaskar responded by explaining what Pant’s celebration may have been. “No, this is, I think that’s basically, thanking the gods above. He had something on his eye. He kind of put us on the signal,” Gavaskar replied.

Soon after Pant reached his century, Cameras panned towards Gavaskar in the stand, gesturing towards the star wicketkeeper-batter to do the Somersault flip.

It further added to the special chemistry between the duo. During the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy, Gavaskar had remarked on Pant’s dismissal as ‘Stupid, Stupid, Stupid’ before labelliing his first innings hundred against England at Headingley as ‘Superb, Superb, Superb.’

England ended the day on a score of 21-0 with openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley at the crease. They still need to score another 350 runs to win the game, while the Indian bowlers will be looking to get all the 10 wickets and defeat the Ben Stokes-led side in the first test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
