Prithvi Shaw rose to prominence as a teenager, making a remarkable impact with a century on his debut in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai. He also captained India to victory in the 2018 U-19 World Cup. On his Test debut against the West Indies, the right-handed batter impressed with a century.
Shaw was once the subject of great anticipation, with several experts and supporters even likening him to the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. However, his career has since encountered challenges, and he has not played for India since 2021. Additionally, he went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Shaw has maintained a close friendship with Arjun Tendulkar, who is the son of the iconic Sachin. The cricket legend has witnessed Shaw’s career struggles. In a recent interview, the 25-year-old expressed that Sachin still has faith in him and has urged him to return to his previous form.
“Sachin sir is well aware of my journey. Arjun and I have been friends since we were around 8 or 9 years old. We’ve played together and grown up side by side. Sir has often been around too. I had a conversation with him just a couple of months ago. He was practising at MIG, and I happened to be there as well. We spoke then. When things don’t go as planned and you start losing your way, you really need that mentor who can reignite your passion,” Shaw shared during an interview with News24.
“He still has faith in me. He told me, ‘Prithvi, I still believe in you, and I always will.’ He’s seen me grow over the years. Even now, he advises me, ‘Get back on track, like you were before.’ He believes that anything is possible in the next 13-14 years, and that belief from him means a great deal to me,” he added.
