Delhi: Former Australian cricketer Brad Headin has urged Indian Test captain Shubman Gill to adopt a more aggressive and risky strategy in the second Test against England on July 2 in Birmingham. Headin believes that the team should not be afraid to take risks to win.

Questions raised on India’s bowling

India’s batting was better in the first Test match but the bowling looked weak.

Except Jasprit Bumrah, the rest of the bowlers could not bowl on a good line and length. Due to this, India had to face defeat by five wickets. Headin criticized the team’s bowling strategy and advised a change in it.

Is Ravindra Jadeja no longer effective?

Headin also questioned whether Ravindra Jadeja is no longer as impressive in foreign circumstances. He said that Jadeja is very effective in India but their effects in places like England decreases.

Headin said that Jadeja can be taken in the role of another spinner, but if the team wants to win, then he needs more wicket -taking options.

Weak data abroad

Jadeja has scored just 1304 runs in 30 matches so far in foreign Test matches, his average is 32.6. At the same time, he has taken 81 wickets in these matches and his bowling average has been 35.58, which is much bad since his average 20.71 in India. This is the reason that Headin feels that the team should find new options to play abroad.

Advice to give Kuldeep Yadav a chance

Headin said that India should give an opportunity to an aggressive bowler like Kuldeep Yadav, who can take wickets. According to him, bowlers like Mohammad Siraj are already in the team who can work for pressure. Therefore, the team now needs a bowler who can make a difference in the match.

A big decision will have to be taken in the absence of Jaspreet Bumrah

Headin also said that if Jaspreet Bumrah does not play in the next Test, then India will have to take big and adventure decisions.

The team will have to make such a strategy so that it does not fall behind 0-2 in the series.

Reddy’s arrival can get balance

Headin also suggested that if all -rounder Reddy is included in the team, then the team can be made more aggressive by bringing Kuldeep instead of Jadeja. This can lead to both newness in bowling and the ability to take wickets.
