India’s pace workload is a growing concern. Since 2024, Indian pacers have bowled 1112 overs, and Bumrah alone has delivered 410 of them. Add Siraj’s 355 overs, and two bowlers have shouldered nearly 69% of the total workload.

Naturally, questions arise — should Bumrah have rested during IPL 2025 instead of missing crucial Test matches?

But the bigger question is: Where is India’s next crop of pacers?
Earlier, Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma shared the burden. Ishant, with a stellar economy of 3.15, was a reliable workhorse. Today, options like Prasidh Krishna, Harshit Rana, Mukesh Kumar, and Akashdeep remain inconsistent or underused. Prospects like Kamboj, Arshdeep, and Khaleel are still developing, while names like Yash Dayal need more exposure.

Until this bench strengthens, managing the workload of Bumrah (and Siraj) will be a bigger challenge than it should be.
