Mohammed Shami, the renowned pacer od the Indian cricket team, has been instructed by the Calcutta High Court to pay a monthly amount of Rs 4 lakh to his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, and their daughter, Aaira. As per the court’s decision, Jahan will receive Rs 1.5 lakh each month, while their daughter will be entitled to Rs 2.5 lakh monthly, in the ongoing divorce proceedings.

Shami and Jahan, who tied the knot in 2014, have been living separately since 2018 after Jahan made allegations against the Indian player regarding domestic abuse and infidelity. Their divorce case has involved prolonged legal disputes over financial support and other matters.

Hasin Jahan explained that she has no income of her own. “I was a model and actor before marriage, and that was sufficient for me. Shami insisted that I quit my career, wanting me to live solely as a housewife. I loved him deeply, so I accepted it without hesitation. But now, I have no source of income. Shami is responsible for our financial support. This is why we had to go to court when he refused to take on this responsibility. I’m grateful that there is a law in our country that ensures people fulfill their duties,” she told news agency ANI.

“When you enter a relationship with someone, you don’t expect to see signs of poor character, and criminal behavior. I became a victim of this. God has forgiven even the most severe wrongdoers. He can’t destroy me because I am walking the path of justice, while he is on the path of injustice,” Hasin mentioned.

Imtiaz Ahmed, Jahan’s lawyer, described it as a pivotal moment for his client. “For Hasin Jahan, this marks a significant achievement. After struggling for six years, from 2018 to 2024, the court has finally ruled in her favour. The court has ruled that Hasin Jahan should receive a monthly payment of Rs 1.5 lakh, while their daughter is entitled to Rs 2.5 lakh per month. Furthermore, any additional assistance required for the daughter will be provided by Mohammed Shami,” he said.

“The High Court has instructed the trial court to resolve the main application for the interim order within six months. There is a strong possibility that when they return to the trial court to finalize the hearing on maintenance, the amount may be increased to Rs 6 lakh.”
