Manolo marquez: A big news has come out about the Indian football team. Manolo Marques, the head coach of the national men’s team, has resigned from his post. The decision has been taken under mutual consent with All India Football Federation AIFF. The special thing is that the contract of Markwez was still a year more, but he expressed his desire to withdraw himself in view of the team’s constant performance.
The performance of the Indian football team in the last few months has been very disappointing on the ground. Whether it was the defeat of the AFC qualifier or the decline in FIFA rankings, the team was seen struggling on every front. In such a situation, the resignation of coach Manolo Marques was considered to be possible, which has now been officially done.
Manolo Marques was appointed the head coach of the Indian Senior Men’s team in August 2023. He got a three -year contract and expected him to give a new direction to Indian football. But within about 11 months, he decided to step down. AIFF Deputy General Secretary K.K. Satyanarayana issued a statement saying, “Manolo and AIFF have decided to separate with mutual consent, without any financial impact.”
During the tenure of Manolo Marques, India played a total of 8 matches, out of which only one win could be won. In a friendly match played in March, India defeated Maldives 3–0, but the team looked weak in the rest of the matches. The biggest failure was when India suffered a 0–1 defeat in the AFC Asia Cup 2027 qualifier against Hong Kong on 10 June and the team fell out of the tournament.
The team’s FIFA rankings also declined during Manolo’s tenure. While India was ranked 99th in July 2023, the team has now slipped to 127th position. India did not win any competitive match since November 2023, and the last win came in coaching of Igor Steamac against Kuwait which was replaced by Marques.
