Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial knock of 89 runs in the ongoing second Test match against England in Birmingham.

While he narrowly missed out on a century, his composed innings significantly contributed to India's commanding 500-plus total. However, amid the praise for his performance, it has come to light that Jadeja unknowingly violated a key BCCI protocol introduced earlier this year.

What Rule Did Jadeja Break?

As per reports, Jadeja breached the BCCI’s updated Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) during the Test match. Following India’s disappointing tour of Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) implemented new rules to strengthen team discipline and cohesion.

One such guideline mandates that all players must travel together in the official team bus to practice sessions and match venues. The aim is to ensure uniformity and minimize any distractions or security risks.

Why Did He Travel Separately?

According to reports, Jadeja arrived at Edgbaston separately on the day of the match — a clear violation of the travel protocol. However, it's understood that he had good reason.

The left-hander reportedly reached the ground early to get in some additional batting practice before the match began.

Since his early arrival was for match preparation, and he did not delay or cause any disruption to the team schedule, no disciplinary action is expected against him.

"Somewhere I felt that I should go and bat extra because the ball was still new," Jadeja explained after the day’s play, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo. 

"I felt if I can see the new ball off, it would become easy for the rest of the innings. Luckily I could bat till lunch, and then Washi[ngton Sundar] also batted well with Shubman.
