The 25-year-old Shubman Gill has surpassed Virat Kohli’s record of the highest run scorer in a test debut as an India captain.
He reached the milestone during the second test against England in Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Edgbaston. Scoring 460 runs in just four innings, Gill made a statement in his first series as full-time skipper.
Shubman Gill had a solid 147 run knock in the first test at Headingley, showing his masterclass and skills in English conditions.
With his knock, he become only the fifth Indian to score a century on Test captaincy debut, joining legendary names such as Vijay Hazare and Sunil Gavaskar.
The previous record belonged to Virat Kohli who sored 449 runs in four innings during India’s 2014/15 tour of Australia.
