The third Test match between India and England is set to begin on July 10 at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The five-match Test series is currently tied at 1-1, and India will be eager to take the lead by winning at Lord’s.

At the same time, captain Shubman Gill has a golden opportunity to create history in this match. He needs just 18 runs to do so.

So far, Shubman Gill has scored 585 runs in just two Tests of the ongoing India vs England series. He hit a century in the first Test and followed it up with a stellar performance in the second Test at Edgbaston, where he smashed a double century (269 runs) in the first innings.

He then scored another superb 161 runs in the second innings. With these scores, Gill now has a real chance to become the highest run-scorer for India in a Test series played in England.

Dravid-Kohli-Gavaskar Could Be Surpassed

Currently, the record for most runs by an Indian in a Test series in England belongs to Rahul Dravid, who scored 602 runs in six innings of three matches back in 2002.

Virat Kohli is second with 593 runs in a five-match series in 2018. Shubman Gill, having scored 585 runs in just four innings, is on the verge of surpassing both these legends.

As soon as he scores 18 more runs, he will rewrite the record books during the Lord’s Test.

Gill also joined an elite club by scoring centuries in both innings at Edgbaston. He became just the third Indian captain to achieve this feat. Before him, Virat Kohli had scored hundreds in both innings of the Adelaide Test against Australia in 2014, while Sunil Gavaskar did the same against the West Indies at Kolkata in 1978.

Now, with history in sight at Lord’s, all eyes will be on Shubman Gill to see if he can surpass these greats and lead India to victory.
