Joe Root Achieves Historic Feat With Resilient Knock on Day 01 During Lord’s Test

England star batter Joe Root has made a solid knock of 99* runs on day 01 of the third test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

He has become the fifth player in Test cricket history to complete 7000 runs on home soil, joining the likes of Ricky Ponting, Sachin Tendulkar, Mahela Jayawardene and Jacques Kallis.

He also become the first batter to hit 3000 Test runs against India and also smashed his 23rd half century in 33 tests against India with an average of 58.

Joe Root is one run away from his 11th test hundred against India, which would tie Steve Smith’s record. England scored 251/4 at stumps on Day 01 of the third test.

Batting first, England lost their both openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett to Nitish Reddy in the 14th over. Ollie Pope scored 44 runs before being dismissed by Jadeja while Harry Brook was dismissed by 11 runs.

Ben Stokes went on to join Joe Root to make a solid stand as the duo went on to stand unbeaten by the end of day 01.

Meanwhile, there was a length delay to India wk-batter Rishabh Pant’s index finger, which was damaged while half-stopping leg byes. He didn’t return for the last half of the day. Meanwhile, Dhruv Jurel has taken wicketkeeping duties.

Stokes had scored 39* runs helping the side to score 251 runs by the end of day 01. Nitish Kumar Reddy bagged two wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah scored 1 wicket each.
