A solid knock from Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran has secured a ticket for MI New York to the MLC 2025 finals during the Challenger match against Texas Super Kings.
The duo’s 52* and 47* run knock has helped MI New York to claim a 7-wicket victory on Saturday’s clash.
Batting first Texas Super Kings has posted 166 runs in their 20 over innings. Despite a mini-batting collapse, fifties from du Plessis, Akeal Hosein and a solid knock from Donovan Ferrira has helped the side to post a decent total.
Smit Patel and du Plessis opened the innings while Trent Boult opened the bowling attack. However, Smit, Saiteja and Shubham has been dismissed cheaply before the end of the powerplay.
After the dismissal of Stoinis for six runs, Texas Super Kings has lost four wickets for 72 runs. Meanwhile, du Plessis went on to smash fifty and amassed 59 runs before being dismissed by Tristan Luus.
However, Akeal Hosein and Donovan Ferreira’s knocks has helped the side to cross 150+ run mark and set 167 run target for MI New York.
Tristan Luus and Rushil Ugarkar were the only wicket takers for MI New York. In the pursuit of chasing 167, runs, Quinton de Kock and Monank Patel opened the innings while Akeal Hosein has opened the bowling attack.
Despite the dismissal of de Kock and Michael Bracewell for single digit scores, Monank Patel has posted 49 runs before being dismissed by Noor Ahmad.
Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard took charge and completed the chase with 6 balls to spare.
Kieron Pollard was named as the Player of the match. Speaking on the post match conference, he said, “I think the intent was the key. I knew they are keeping Noor for me as the matchup. It’s difficult as you can get out.”
“I played against Noor a couple of times and took him on in the last game as well. The conversation was simple. We found ourself in a spot of bother. We knew we will get the boundaries once we stayed there.”
“We shouldn’t be here for the way we have played but we are here so we might as well play. I know the team is depending on me as well so I tried to do well,” he concluded.
The finals of the MLC 2025 will be played between Washington Freedom and MI New York on July 14 at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas.
