The third Test match between India and England at Lord's has reached a thrilling stage. Both teams scored 387 runs each in their respective first innings, keeping the contest evenly balanced.

England posted 192 runs in their second innings - setting India a small yet challenging target. Let’s take a look at the past records at Lord’s.

India’s Biggest Run Chase at Lord’s

India’s highest successful run chase at Lord’s is 134 runs, achieved against England in 1986. So to win the Lord's Test, India now need to attain their highest run chase at Lord's.

In that historic match, Dilip Vengsarkar played a brilliant unbeaten knock of 126 runs, guiding India to victory.

Since then, India has won two more Tests at this iconic venue, but those came while defending targets. Historically, India's success rate while chasing at Lord’s hasn’t been strong.

To date, no team has ever successfully chased 400 or more runs at Lord’s. The record for the highest successful run chase at the venue belongs to the West Indies, who chased down 344 runs against England in 1984.

They remain the only team to chase 300+ runs at this ground.

England holds the second spot, having chased 282 runs against New Zealand in 2004. South Africa is third, having chased the same total against Australia in the 2025 WTC Final. These chases show that successful high chases at Lord’s are rare.

West Indies – 344 runs vs England (1984)

England – 282 runs vs New Zealand (2004)

South Africa – 282 runs vs Australia (2025 WTC Final)

England – 279 runs vs New Zealand (2022)

England – 218 runs vs New Zealand (1965)

With both teams fighting hard and plenty of cricket still left, all eyes will be on how much of a lead England builds and whether India can rewrite history with a record-breaking chase at the “Mecca of Cricket.”
