Overview:

Rahane, once a leader in India’s overseas wins, has seen his Test career affected by inconsistent form and younger players’ rise. However, he remains focused on controlling his own performance.

Ajinkya Rahane has emphasised that his passion for playing Test cricket remains unwavering, despite not receiving any communication from the selectors regarding a possible return. Rahane revealed that he is focused on staying match-ready by continuing his training, with the hope of getting another opportunity to represent India in the longer format.

The 37-year-old’s last Test match was in 2023 during the tour of the West Indies. Since then, the Indian Test team has undergone changes, with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring, while Shubman Gill has taken over as the new captain. Despite this change, Rahane remains hopeful about his prospects.

“I still want to play Test cricket. I’m really passionate about playing Test cricket, and at this point, I’m just relishing my cricket,” Rahane said in an interview with Sky Sports.
“I’m only here for a few days, but I brought my trainers and workout clothes to stay in shape. Our domestic season is about to start, so the preparations have officially kicked off.”

Rahane, once a leader in India’s overseas wins, has seen his Test career affected by inconsistent form and younger players’ rise. However, he remains focused on controlling his own performance.

“For me, it’s all about focusing on what I can control.Honestly, I attempted to have discussions with the selectors, but there are certain things as a player that are beyond my control. I didn’t receive any response,” Rahane added.

Though there has been no response from the selectors, Rahane insists that he will not let this lack of communication dampen his motivation.

“As a player, all I can do is keep playing cricket, enjoy the game, and give my best every time.I have a deep love for Test cricket and red-ball cricket. It’s this passion and love for the game that constantly drives me forward,” he concluded.

While a return to the Indian Test team seems uncertain given the team’s evolution, Rahane’s experience and commitment to the format remain assets. For the time being, his attention will be on Mumbai’s domestic cricket, where he hopes to make a strong statement with his performances.
