Main point:

India lagged behind the series due to two important mistakes in Leeds and Lord’s Tests. Ravi Shastri described Pant’s run out and Karun Nair’s omission as turning point. Now Gill’s team will have to make a comeback by creating history in Manchester.

Delhi: After the failure to defend the target of 371 runs in Leeds and not being able to chase 193 runs in Lord’s, Shubman Gill’s captaincy team lost two big opportunities against England. India is now trailing 2–1 in the five-Test series of Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Ravi Shastri remembers 2021 tour

Former Indian coach Ravi Shastri believes that if a little luck had with India, the team would have made an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series. He said that the Lord’s Test reminded him of 2021 when India won in a similar situation.

Ravi Shastri said, “The Lord’s Test reminded me of 2021. Even then the score was almost the same and India won. This time it was not lucky. But, the series is very interesting and there are two matches left. India can return and if this happens then the last Test (Oval) will be very exciting.”

Shastri told two turning points

According to the former Indian coach, there were two most important moments of Lord’s Test, Rishabh Pant’s run out and Karun Nair dismissed. He especially praised Ben Stokes who run Pant out of direct hit just before lunch. He said that at that time India had fully gripped on the game and if Pant had stayed, India could have gained an edge.

Displeasure over Karun Nair’s mistake

Shastri also expressed resentment over the mistake of Karun Nair. He said that leaving a straight ball and getting out was a big lapse at that time. If the top order showed a little more patience, then India could win this test. He praised the lower batsmen Bumrah, Siraj and Jadeja who were batting well.

He said, “82 runs were needed till lunch and it seemed that India would win. But, it was a big thing to come from 82 to 22. It was clear that it was clear that if the top order was a little strong, then it could have won.”

Now tough challenge in Manchester

Now India will have history in the fourth Test in Manchester. India has not won any Test there till date. In such a situation, the biggest challenge before Gill’s team is to return to the series in England and create history.
